Trans grinding/growling from transfer case area | Chevy and GMC …

My 07 had the same issue. Turned out my converter was fried. I changed the transfer case because that's where the growling sounded like it was coming from. trans overheated and as soon as I pulled in the driveway way the trans puked and caught the truck on fire. If you can post a video of the truck making the sound I can help you out better.

Thought it was the drivers front wheel bearing as well but no. Finally took it to a mechanic since I bought an extended warranty when I got my truck. Turned out my front diff and transfer case needed replaced! Pull the plug on both and check the fluids. I had metal shavings in both my front diff and transfer case.

Grinding in Reverse ONLY

I replaced the input shaft on the transfer case to allow them to mate up. All gears work except reverse. When reverse is selected a loud grinding sound that makes me cringe occurs (sounds like trying to put a manual transmission into gear without using the clutch). The noise seems to be coming from the t-case. Any help is greatly appreciated.
